Sundance Spin
Sundance Resort  -  June 2, 2007

On a beautiful sunny day, 29 UMB racers climbed through the trees of Sundance in the 6th 2007 Intermountain Cup race.  The trail was dry and dusty, and our racers returned coated with brown dirt. We had first place finishes by Justin Griffin, Carlee Hunsaker, and Todd Neumarker, and second-places by Mike Engberson and Dave Larsen.

Category 10-12:

Left:  Justin Griffin immediately jumps to the front
and takes another 1st place. That's six straight
1st-place finishes this season, six to go.

Right: Carlee Hunsaker motors past Mount
Timpanogos on her way to again take the 
1st-place for girls and to finish 8th overall.

Beginner Men 13-15: Beginner Men 16-18:

Jake Van Wagoner stands to get some speed
on the way to a 4th place finish in BM 13-15.

Colin Hunsaker is looking a little dusty as
he cranks down the trail to 4th place in BM 16-18.
Beginner Men 19-29:

Left:  With Timpanogos as his scenic backdrop,
Casey Jensen heads up the slopes to grab the
3rd place position for BM 19-29.

Right:  Cranking hard uphill, Mark Ludwig
makes a good race of it, taking 5th.

Beginner Men 30-39:

Dale Hutchings takes the 4th place spot
in Beginner Men 30-39 for a ribbon and
4 much-needed team points.

Beginner Men 40-plus:

Right:  Brad Sneed raises the dust as he
passes a slower rider, motoring to the
4th place spot in BM 40-plus.

Left:  Scott Van Wagoner fights through
to team points and a ribbon with 5th place.

Russ Margetts pilots the Jekyll through
a meadow on his way to 7th.

Scott Hunsaker grabs the 9th place
finish in BM 40-plus.

Chad Waldron cranks through the trees
on the way downhill, taking 11th.
Beginner Women:   
Left:  Not in UMB uniform until after the race,
Holly Nelson makes her first start for the team
and takes 4th in BW.


Sport-Expert 13-15:
Left:  Danny Van Wagoner eyes the tight spot
on the downhill as he prepares to thread the
needle with the handlebars. Danny hangs in
to take 3rd place in SE 13-15.

Right:  In his second race of the day, Justin Griffin
battles the mountain to take a strong 6th place.

Sport/Expert 16-18:

All intensity, Dave Larsen powers up
the hill on his way to 2nd place.

Kellie Williams banks a hard turn as
she finishes 3rd in Sport/Expert 16-18.

Trevor Beard cranks up the mountain
but takes a DNF for this race.
Sport Men 19-29:

Tyler Margetts flies downhill through
the trees to capture 5th in SM 19-29.

Cranking hard and raising dust,
Eric Taylor motors to 6th place.

Ben Hutchings fights through a turn
as he grabs the 8th place spot.
Sport Men 30-34:
Left:  Rich Bruin clears the goalposts at the
tightest spot on the trail, taking the 9th place
finish in the SM 30-34 category.

Right:  Dan Hutchings cranks uphill as he rides
to the 16th-place position. 

Sport Men 35-39:

Todd Neumarker makes a strong ride to grab
1st place in SM 35-39. This photo captures what
many of us will remember: dust in our eyes, dust 
up our noses, dust in the lungs, plus legs and
arms with a dense brown "tan." 

Mike Engberson pivots through a turn with 
tight clearance as he takes the 2nd place
position for this category.

Denmark Jensen rockets downhill on
the way to 10th place in SM 35-39.

Jared Evans motors up the hill on the way
to the 15th place spot.

Sport Men 40-plus:  No UMB SM 40+ in this race!  Sport Women:  No UMB SW riders in this race.  Clydesdale:   No team rider.   Singlespeed:  No team rider.    Men 50-plus:  No team rider.
Women 35-plus:
Left:  Jolene Nosack gives another strong
performance as she powers up the hill to
take 3rd place in W35+.

Right:  Sally Hutchings grabs the 7th place
finish in the upper women's category.

Men 57-plus:
Bruce Argyle hits the corner, riding to the 4th place spot in the M57+ category.

 Of 29 UMB racers who came to Sundance, 20 qualified for team points, earning a total of 84 team points. The season is now officially half over, with 6 of 12 races completed. We have 5 riders who are in first place for their divisions, and the team is solidly in 2nd place. A big "thank you" to Jay Griffin for the awesome race photos!
