Deer Valley Pedalfest
Deer Valley  -  June 9, 2007

Deer Valley had perfect conditions, as a recent soaking rain left just the right amount of grip in the soil with no slippery spots. UMB fielded 25 racers, with 13 scoring team points. The weather was a sunny but cool "just right" for fast riding. We had first place finishes by Justin Griffin, Carlee Hunsaker, and Dave Larsen, with second-places by Todd Neumarker and Kellie Williams.

Category 10-12:

Left:  Justin Griffin rocks around a turn
on the way to his 7th consecutive 1st place
finish this season. Justin leads the team
in points as he dominates his 10-12
category and often races again in
the sport-expert 13-15 class.

Right: Carlee Hunsaker is again the top girl
finisher in the category, riding to the 8th
position overall.

on Deer Crest, 3rd place in BM 30-39.

Dale Hutchings flies past the fir trees,
motoring on to take 10th in his category.

Coming off an illness, Jeff Frederick
gives it a try but takes a DNF.

Beginner Men 40-plus:

Todd Jackson is on the home stretch,
finishing his lap for 4th place in BM 40+.

Brad Sneed cranks hard to chase Todd,
coming in close at 5th place.

Scott Hunsaker rolls a downhill section
on his way to take 8th place.

Beginner Women:
Left:  Catherine Reay makes another strong
ride (with no blood this time) to take 3rd in BW.

3rd place in Men 57+.

Clydesdale:   No team rider.     Men 50-plus:  No team rider.

The Deer Valley race tied our smallest turnout in the 7 races of this season. We especially missed our young beginning riders -- but so did all the other teams, as these categories had only one or two participants. Must be the call of summer... We took a close 2nd in the team competition. A big thanks to all who were able to make it to Deer Valley. It was a beautiful day on a great trail.

Photo:  Justin is a little bored with the award ceremony, so he's practicing his "air time."

A big "thank you" to Jay Griffin for the awesome race photos!
