Five Mile Pass
May 6, 2006

A nice day, despite recent rains. Left, Suzie Bria (10th), Julie Hunter (11th), and Sally Hutchings (8th) leave the starting line in the Women's 35-plus category.

Right:  Kellie Williams raises a wall of mud on the backside of the mountain.

Mike Engberson fights his way to his
highest finish ever, 2nd place in Sport
Men 30-39.

Trevor Simper rode to a 2nd place in
Pro Men, despite a serious shoulder
injury early in the race.

Chad Hunter rolls into 9th place
in the tough singlespeed division.

Justin Griffin dips through the gully
on his way to second place in 10-12.

Dan Hutchings gets lucky number 666
for his #16 finish in Beginner Men 19-29.

Dave Larsen climbs out of a wash on
his way to 3rd place in Sport Men 16-18.

Jolene Nosack (left) earned another trip
to the podium with 6th place in Women 35-plus.

At right, John Van Wagoner joins
the team to capture a 1st place in
Mens Beginner 40-plus.

Jordan Petersen jumps off the line. In his
first start for the UMB team, Jordan took
1st place in Beginner Men 16-18.

Travis Millward approaches a deep
puddle. Travis  took 7th place in
Begginner Men 19-29.

In his first race for the UMB team,
Danny Van Wagoner took a 3rd
place in Beginner Men 13-15.

Three-season veteran Ben Hutchings
takes 12th place in Sport Men 19-29.

Matt Flygare hits the mud as he rides
to 16th in Sport Men 30-39.

Here's Sally Hutchings heading for
the 8th place finish in Women's 35-plus.

In action that escaped photography, Dallin Searle took another 1st place in 9-and-under. That's Dallin at left.

Evan Christensen placed 19th in Beginner Men 30-39. Sammy Bria finished 10th in the  10-12 category. Jeremiah Smith placed 18th in Expert Men 19-29.

Bruce (6th place) and the 50-plus guys start their two laps. The 50-plus group was split this year. Only one rider made the cut into the 57-plus group for this race, but Bruce will move up into that category next year.

In the Five Mile Pass race, racers took three 1st places, three 2nd places, with a total of  9 riders going to the podium. We earned 54 team points, second-highest for this race and our highest of the season, to put us in 3rd place for the 2006 Intermountain Cup season with 3 of 14 races completed.  Dave Larsen, Dallin Searle, and Justin Griffin currently hold the #1 position for the season in their categories.

Thanks to Richard Williams for providing the team bivouac area, getting the Gatorade cold, and heating up the after-race BBQ.
And thanks once again to Jay Griffin for taking these photos!
