Snow-biking in the Little Valley system
Summary of ride:
(1) Four very short loop options in the instructional trail system, ranging from 1/3 to 1/2 mile each. Packing conditions are unpredictable; easy riding when packed.
(2) Main Little Valley trail offers one-mile intermediate loop with Ann's.

Deep-snow Season:  Mid-December to mid-February.

Usual packed Route(s):  New system with no long-term winter history. The main Little Valley Trail is usually foot-packed, followed by occasional bikes. The instructional loops are often unpacked but can be a good place for beginners and mixed-ability groups -- when an expert trail-breaker does a lap or two first.

Characteristics: When packed, instructional loops are good for young riders and beginners. Very gentle climb via Main then circle back on one of 4 trails (D-line is found to the west on the main Little Valley trail). Tech factor is alphabetic: A-line is easiest; D-line hardest.
The loop of Little Valley and Ann's is rated for upper-intermediate riders due to often-bumpy and seldom-packed 0.7 miles on Little Valley. Clockwise is easiest.

Timing:  Mornings 8 to noon. Later morning hours are best if you need to pack snow for new riders.

Access:  Use the Little Valley trailhead on Traverse Ridge Road -- just downhill and across the road from the Potato Hill trailhead. Start uphill on Main. Alternate: park at Potato Hill and go under the road on Ann's trail to the first Little Valley fork, then drop to the uphill staging area for the instructional trails.
