Ride_description

Enjoy quick access from Logan to an efficiently rising trail that takes you to either spectacular open shots off Logan Peak or protected tree and slide paths lower in the canyon. Trail itself is only about 8 miles long out-and-back, but longer rides and loops can be accessed up top. The longest loop (sort-of) I know of is a 24 mile loop (4 miles of Dry Canyon repeated, 4 miles of Logan Peak repeated) heading from the mouth of dry canyon to Logan Peak. Rocky single track with occasional double track sections. Just remember - 3000' up = 3000' down :) That makes it all worth it!

At the end of the road the road will curve right and also go straight follow the left fork and this will turn into a single track that ends up near the noblets parking lot. This trail is on the topographic maps. There are actually two single tracks that fork we also took the right fork for it is longer. This is a fast wide trail that is not open to four wheelers only bikes and horses hiking

Park at the watertank just above the cemetery and take a dirt road for about 2 miles until you get to the provo race course.

Ride_description

About 15 feet before the entrance to the race course there will be a trail on the left. As you start on that trail you will go for .25 miles and you will reach a fork take the right. There is a portion of the trail that is very loose and in bad condition. Riders have made a alternative trail around that, to get there take another left on a trail. It will probably be covered in grass. Than you get to a meadow with a rock statue, take a left at that and you will be on your way to a fun uphill climb. You will come to a ATV trail that you follow up until you reach another small meadow take a right at the meadow and you will be on your way. The rest is simple and very fast downhill through Dry Canyon.

Trailhead

Highway 153 up Beaver canyon to Kents Lake turnoff. Take Kents Lake loop road past Anderson Meadow. The trail is marked as ATV Piute Side Trail "South Creek Trail" on right. Take road to the right and continue on an old fire road for approximately 2 miles. The trail begins there. It ascends for 1/4 mile then drops the rest of the way. I recommend a vehicle that is somewhat capable for the fire road. It is a park and ride, so you will need a ride back up to your vehicle.

Ride_description

The beginning descent is really loose, shale-like rocks. It has quite a few loose switch-backs. It is quite technical due to the loose rocks between the two tracks. The many 4 wheelers that travel this trail, push all the rocks to the middle or the sides, so crossing from one track to the other is quite difficult. It is a downhill ride all the way. There is definitely more braking than pedaling for the first 8 miles. Along the way you pass numerous meadows, beaver damns, and tons of breath-taking views. Towards the end of the double track, it becomes less techical, but still a blast to ride. The only downfall to this trail is the bottom 12 miles is a gravel road that takes you down into Beaver. Some people have parked another vehicle at the bottom of the double track, then drove into Beaver then back up to get the other vehicle. Even with riding the gravel road, this is one of the best trails I have ever done. It is a blast.

Ride_description

The trail is quite isolated from the town, although is cirles the mesa Page was built on. The city designated the rocky escarpment around the mesa as a protected zone, and so no cars intrude upon the ride except at 2 street crossings. The east & north portions of the ride are isolated from the City, and seem to be quite remote. I realize that this trail is not in Utah, but your site has so much information about great rides around Utah, that I am requesting that you set up a sub-category of rides called something like "great rides near Utah". Page is about 4 miles outside of Utah, on Lake Powell, which is 90% inside Utah. It has good weather in early spring, late fall, and much of the winter for alternative rides, simeilar to St. George area. I am including some links to Google Video that I took. If they don't show up correctly, just type in Page Rim Trail, and you will see them. Use the most recent dates, as I filmed them with my son in front, so you get a better perspective of the turns, etc. There are at least 9 clips. I know that your policy is to ride any trail that you approve, so let us know if you decide to come down. I can show you or check with Vance or Jathan at Lakeside Bikes in downtown Page, 928.645.2266. They can also give you a Hummer Slot Canyon Tour. Awesome Downhill Singletrack. Gets to be technical in some areas, some areas rocky, some well groomed, jumps towards the end of the trail. Awesome DH trail in my opinion.

Strawberry Reservoir - start at the Aspen Grove marina (NW corner of the parking lot) or Renegade Pt. marina

Ride_description

The best trail I have ridden in the Uintahs. A really nice and smooth easy to follow 12 mile singletrack that countours around the south side of the Strawberry narrows section of the reservoir (~100 vf above the lake). Mostly level and rideable with occasional short steep sections (primarily to climb over rock outcroppings or to cross gullys). Mixture of shaded Pines & Aspens with some sage brush riding, good views of the lake and peaks beyond. Some double track options on the West side of the ride and an additional single track option in one of the hollows (I didn't have the chance to explore). If you start at the Aspen Grove marina, go to the NW corner of the parking lot (near the boat docks) and look for the TH sign (I believe it's listed as FS #306). Go .35 miles to a dirt road intersection, then follow the road .5 miles to rejoin the trail on your right. Watch for the awkardly placed sign that faces the wrong direction. If you go through the gate in the road you've gone ~100 ft. too far. From there you have 12 miles of mostly buffarama (~90%-95% smooth) singletrack to the renegade pt. marina. The Strawberry Narrows trail makes for a nice out n' back ride that aerobically is pretty easy. Just enough technical to lightly spice it up, however still easy enough that beginner & intermediate riders will find it a joy. One short exposed section (~100 yds. long), however the trail is wide enough and the exposure gradual enough to keep it from getting too daunting (My wife, who is an exposure weenie, had no problem with it. I call it emergency room exposure, not morgue exposure like the portal). You'd probably end up just battered and bruised if you fell or possibly taking a swim if you couldn't self arrest. Overall a great ride, looks like the FS just cut the trail within the last couple of years (tracks are still visible from the trail dozer + the trail signs still look relatively new). Mileage markers every mile the whole length of the trail are nice + the FS did a good job of adding signs for the different hollows/points/rivers along the trail. Highly recommended for those who like smooth singletrack!

Ride_description

Found this while exploring the double track road and thinking why don't they put trails up here? So I don't know the intended way to start the ride. Trail climb continues up the ridges above the afore-mentioned double track crossing then you reach a signed split in the trail. Left for "Jack" wich begins to climb again, the other trail "dipity" appears to descend. Jack tops out on a minor summit ridge of that mountain southwest of Vernal and begins a fun long descent. Trail is mostly new super narrow rocky single track that keeps your attention but suprisingly rideable, climbing wasn't hard with nice swoopy switchbacks. Enjoy cruising down the rolling ridglines of the mountain. A couple of the descending switchbacks were a little bit sharp. Couple of fun knife edge ridges to ride over and one last quite technical steep drop then finishes in classic soft Vernal area desert single track back near the paved access road. Soon it's "dipity" that re-joins I guess, then you ride past a wrong way sign appropriatly placed just before reaching the corral. Didn't get enough? climb back up and drop Dipity!

Ride_description

there will be a gate up the hill a little bit and they dont want vehicle traffic but foot or bike traffis is ok. follow dirt rd on bike and look for single track trails on the right side of the road that start off half way up. there are a few more that start on the top of the hill by the cell towers. those ones are more enjoyable. all trails start off single track and fun downhill but soon end up in steep switchbacks which usually requires you to ditch the bike and hike down which totally ruins the fun, there is a bunch of trals up there that cross each other, you just have to explore. my favorite starts all the way on top on the west translators u can see a trail to the west that soon forks straight or left, down the hill. i take that one. all trails end up on surface streets where u can ride back on bike. its pretty simple to find out especially if u have a gps.

You start at the bottom of Tie Fork canyon and ride 1.5 miles up a double track road (the road has a locked gate at the bottom of Tie Fork canyon that is locked all the time). After 1.5 miles you reach the trail heads of Wild Cattle Hollow Trail and Gentry Hollow Trail. The best route is to ride up Wild Cattle Hollow and come down Gentry Hollow. Gentry Hollow is open to motorized vehicles (the trail is a single track and only motorcycles could make it). My brothers and I are the only mountain bikers that I know of that ride this loop. Ranchers take cattle up and down the trail certain times of the year wich can make the trail rough.

From SLC take I-80 west to Tooele exit (#99, ~15 miles from SLC airport). Follow RT 36 South ~5 miles. Turn left on Bates Canyon Road. Drive East ~1 mile to end of pavement.

Ride_description

From the trail head at the end of Bates Canyon road there are several ways to the Bates Canyon trail. Here are two of my favorites, depending on how I'm feeling. 1) Easier route: ride down (West) Bates Canyon road to the first intersection, this is Droubary road, turn right (North) ride Droubay past the chiken farms and over the railroad (now you're on dirt). Take this DT up and over the hill and around till the first gate with access to BLM land - take a quick right after goint throug the gate and ride the DT back up a slight hill (going south. After ~.5 mile take the DT left (East) and go about .5 it will be flat and then climb a small hil to a flat bench. Traverse the bench left a couple hundred yards and take the road going up the hill toward the power poles. this is about a 10-15 minute ride. This road will end at a "T" and you'll be a couple hundred feet up the hill from where you parked. From here turn left and ride up toward the foothills. Stay to the right when you reach the BLM fence and the road will wind for about .5 mile before reaching a BLM access gate about 15 yards above a ST trail in the scrub oak. This is Bates Canyon. 2)The other route to the trailhead involves a shorter but steeper climb. from the parking area take the DT to on the left and climb and wind your way due East. It is about a 30 minute climb to the mouth of the canyon. Bates Canyon - This single track is alternates between climbs and flatter areas for the first mile or so. Then the climb gets steeper. It goes for about another 2 miles before getting too steep to continue. The trail is a bit rocky, but it is shaded from the sun by the many trees - mostly scrub oak. It's a good test of your endurance and you will definately earn your turns. The scenary is excellent, nice views of the great Salt Lake and Stansbury Park. I've seen several coyotes on this ride in the evenings as well as wild turkeys along the trail and even a bobcat. Be alert to riders on horses as they like to frequent this trail. If you like this ride, try Pole Canyon to the North or my new favorite, Pine Canyon to the South. Middle canyon is excellent for mountain and road bikes, or try Settlement canyon. I'll write more about these later.

Trailhead

At the very south end of Main St. just as it leaves the town; turn-off for canyon is on east side of street.

Ride_description

I like to park somewhere at the Main St./Settlement Cyn intersection and ride up the pavement to the guard shack. Or you can drive all the way up to the gate. The pavement is a mildly tough warm-up. At the guard shack, park (or give the attendant a candy bar to let you park on the other side) and ride past the gate. Almost immediately around the first curve of the road, you'll see a double track trail to your right, follow this all the way up to the end of the line heavy duty gate. (about two miles up.) This trail is great because at almost any time during the ride, if it becomes too difficult, you can detour onto the pavement which is stays on your left about 100 ft. This trail is a horse trail and at one point you might have to dismount to open a horse gate. the trail hugs the mountain side and has a couple short technical areas that might whip a beginner or a drunk rider. when the trail opens at the top, for a little more work-out you can ride the road up to the big gate. Now come back down via pavement for a fast wind in the hair ride, or take the trail again for some more fun.

Ride_description

This is a fun, easy, pretty trail. Going north, it's paved until about 30th st. ogden, easy. or follow the dirt track parrallel to the paved, and ride along the river. going south, it's paved about half a mile, then you can follow the single track (sometimes double) for quite a ways. There's a lot of loos rocks (river bed) and some small obsticles, but over all not bad, my mom can handle it. For a little more of an adventure, when the trail dead ends at the railroad tracks, ride along side to the stop sign (not far), then follow that trail. It hasn't been used much, and there are a lot of dead trees from the winter blocking the track, as well as overgrown bush. I'd really like to see people use this, and clean it up. The major thing is needs would be some kind of bridge at the ends of it where it meets up with the original trail (it does a loop), because you either carry your bike up a TINY hill, or turn around. It's a small pond next to the river, where a small wooden bridge would be nice (if anyone wants to donate time and energy to that)

Trailhead

Pick up Park City trail map, park near the Spiro Trailhead

Ride_description

This ride isn't technically challenging, but the abundant climbing and Epic distances make it a pretty tough ride. Climb up Spiro to Comstock Mine Road, continue up to Shadow Lake. Go left near the Jupiter Lift and after a short climb, go right on the Shadow Lake loop. Watch for a steep narrow single track that takes off on the left. Follow this up to the Wasatch Crest Trail. You'll hit the Crest a short distance below the infamous "Puke Hill". Follow the Crest past the turn-off for the Mill Creek trail. Watch for a turn-off marked Mid-Mountain connector. Follow the connector down a ripping descent. When the connector reaches the Mid-Mountain Trail, go right and follow the Mid-Mountain toward the Red Pine Lodge. Caution: there is one place where the trail hits a double track and climbs toward the Overlook Lodge (or Restaurant?), watch for the Mid-Mountain trail on the right. If you climb to the Overlook Lodge, you've gone too far. After a nice break or even lunch at the Red Pine Lodge, continue on the Mid-Mountain Trail. Shortly after leaving the lodge the trail begins a long gradual climb. You'll know it when you get there. Eventually, the trail begins a fun descent. Start watching for the Spiro Trail Crossing. It isn't marked, but it is the first real trail crossing after you begin to descend in earnest. Hang a left and bomb back down to the car. If Epics are your thang, this is the ride for you! It links two of the best trails in the central Wasatch, and has a little bit of everything, big climbs, gnarly descents, crazy fast downhills, mind blowing scenery. You name it, Its here!

Trailhead

Start at Cove View Golf Course in Richfield, Utah.

Ride_description

From the golf course ride approx. 3 miles south on the frontage road till you get to the Flat Canyon underpass. Turn right through the underpass and follow four wheel double track for a nice 4 mile uphill climb. Stay right at the major forks to ride up the Hogsback which is the highlight of the uphill climb. Climbing on the Hogsback, the trail has drop offs on both sides like the Red Mountain Loop in Cedar City. The downhill section is a romp. One can get good speed. Some techy areas and some steep slopes to decend. The trail has many rock obstacles that make it fun to pick a clean line through. The trail ends just west of Richfield near the dike. Ride the roads back to the golf course to complete the 12 mile loop.

Trailhead

Drive west on Benton Street until reaching South Grant. Turn south (left) on South Grant until you come to an L.D.S. Church. Just to the east of the church is a small park (Centennial Park) where riders can park and fill water bottles. The City Creek trail head is south of the L.D.S. Church just beyond the chain link fence.

Ride_description

(completly stolen from http://www.isu.edu/outdoor/mtbike.htm Begin the ride by following the trail along the City Creek riparian zone. You'll be heading in a westerly direction working your way up to the base of Kinport Mt. The trail is a great single track and used frequently by other riders. Some sections of the trail offer technical riding avoiding roots, rocks, and worn shoulders. At times it pops out onto a gravel road, but just look for places to get back on the single track in the trees. About a mile and a half up the trail there is an intersection. Turn south to go up Kinport via Cusick Creek, the next drainage south of City Creek, or keep heading west to climb Kinport via City Creek. Turn north to get on the City Creek gravel road. Cusick Creek is a narrow service road which is more like two parallel single tracks. The route is somewhat rocky and steep in places. The scenery is great especially as you near the top of Kinport. City Creek is a mix of single track and dirt road. Around a mile after the intersection the single track darts out onto the City Creek road. By this time the road is dirt and nice to ride on. When the road starts to switch back out of the City Creek drainage, you can either head up the road to summit Kinport or stay in the drainage following the creek along a nice single track. Eventually the trail diminishes. Turn around and enjoy the descent. In the higher elevations of City Creek you get into some beautiful pines and aspens. The trails are fairly smooth with occasional interuptions of rocks.

Ride_description

No safe water is available along the way. There is a picnic area with tables and a toilet 1 3/4 miles above the forest boundary. Many unimproved camping spots are available along the way. This ride is on a well-maintained dirt and rock road and is rated moderate. Parking is available at the forest boundary and at the ride's upper terminus. The upper parking area is a trailhead into the Mt. Naomi Wilderness. Please remember bikes are not permitted within the Wilderness boundary. Features:      This area is especially scenic in the spring and fall. The road is lined with hardwoods and brush in the bottoms and grass and juniper on the steep side slopes. A cave near the picnic area was used by Native Americans living in this area 10,000 years ago. Rock used in the construction of early homes and the Logan LDS Temple and Taber-nacle was taken from the Green Canyon Quarry.

Trailhead

The trailhead that I am most familiar with is just up the road from the Brian head Resort base lodge. As you continue past it, look to the left to see a cmaping ground named bear something or other. At the southern tip of this site, right near a steep slope good for viewing the vast wilderness, is the trailhead, easily found b/c of a sign.

Ride_description

The trail is a good workout. Being all singletrack, it is the perfect ride for anyone. Although lacking the technical difficulty of Blow hard or the climbs and wicked descents of Virgin River, its a great trail b/c it is rarely ridden. With some solidly technical sections, and some fast crusing sections, it will give you a chance to just enjoy mountain biking at its purest. Its just the right kind of ride. Its also good b/c if your are camping at that campground you can take the trail to the summit parking lot and access the DH trails or, of course, continue on your way along the perfect ride.

Ride up the Amasa Back road. When the road splits for the final climb to the rim, head right, following the bike tracks and old road

Ride_description

Start down the old road. Eventually it will start to drop down the slickrock. Look for bike tracks and rock cairns. You willl hit a level area and the trail will angle right. Look for the bike tracks and gap between the rocks piled up. The trail will traverse down the side of the hill. There is a small dirt jump. 100 ft after there is a small slickrock climb. DO NOT FOLLOW WHAT APPEARS TO BE THE MAIL TRAIL STRAIGHT AHEAD. Turn right over the crest of the ridge. The trail will angle sharp to the right and drop down. It then traverses the ridge to the right. Look for the cairns. if difficult to follow, generally stay high. It will eventually hit an old road. Climb 150ft back up to hit the Amasa Back road.
