Sundance Spin, Sundance Resort
North Fork Provo Canyon - May 30, 2009

It was a beautiful sunny day at Sundance. Yesterday's rain put the right amount of moisture into the trail. It started to dry out toward the last lap, but dust wasn't a problem. Very fun riding on a great trail system. The sunshine lasted until the award ceremony, with the thunderstorms moving in after the cleanup. The UMB team had first place finishes by Derek Ransom, Jared Muir, Jay Griffin, and Justin Griffin. Second-place wins were scored by Hunter Ransom, Dallin Johnson, Randy Croall, and Ryan Payne.

Category 9-and-under:

Left:  Hunter Ransom makes a strong ride in the 9-and-under
category to get the 2nd place spot out of 25 young riders.
The course had sharp turns up and down the damp grass
near the lift, then bumped down the stairs to a paved path
by the river.

Right:  Jakob Haderlie posts a turn around the course
cone as he nails a solid 3rd place for this race.
Riders made five laps around the loop.

grass under the Sundance lift, taking a nice finish at 7th place.

Right:  Aiden Thayer hammers down as he sprints for

grass toward 22nd place.

Category 10-12:

on the way to taking the 5th place finish in 10-12. The

climbed steeply uphill on the main race loop, then split
off downhill on the Boneyard as the main race loop climbed
Archie's Loop.

Right:  Zachary Peterson stands up to power over a roller
as he nears the end of his first loop. Zach gets points
for the team with a 7th place finish.

Joshua Peterson pedals through the dark
fir forest of Boneyard, taking 9th place.

In this race, Mad Dog grabbed the victory with a record-setting number of team points and strong individual performances, taking a big chunk out of our lead in season points. Our UMB racers made some impressive races and earned a respectable number of points, but there just weren't enough of us at this race. It was a great race -- a beautiful day, terrific trailside scenery, and a good after-race picnic. Looking forward to the next one. That's 7 great races done, only 5 more to go.

Thanks to everyone who took photos! Once again, for many riders I found only a single photo -- we needed every photographer.
