Wondering what type of schwag a goodie bag must have. Seems like you get mostly junk. Tell me what you think. _________________ Join us for weekly group rides. Stop in at the Bike Peddler or check out my blog at www.bikepeddlerutah.com/blog/ for information about group rides. |

Can only pick one?
In my opinion, every event must have a "been there, done that" item. I.e., a t-shirt/socks/hat.
Every event can use a supplement sponsor and said sponsor should provide sample(s) of their product. After all, if I haven't heard of them or haven't used their product before, now I have and I may become a consistant user.
Then of course you get the little things that take up space. These are interchangeable between stickers/coupons/event flyers/catalogs etc.
Water bottles are a dime a dozen. If I get anymore my wife will throw me out of the house.
A big money event should come with a participation ribbon/medal for all entrants. _________________ [url=http://www.TickerFactory.com/exercise/w3ZypHr/]

I like a mix of all of them. Unlike crackbaby, I can use more water bottles. He probably doesn't have a dog that chews them up though. _________________ "Bicycling is a big part of the future. It has to be.

| I like something that isn't the same as every other event. If your gonna give socks or a bottle make it something different. Like the socks at the state championship 2 years ago. They were made by sock guy and were taller with stripes. If its a t-shirt make it long sleeve or even a sleeveless breathable tee that is actually usable. |

A really big belt buckle. Now that's useful.
or...maybe nothing and a really good raffle at the end of the event or season.
T shirts, baseball caps, cycling socks I don't need. I did get a beanie once that I can wear under my helmet for cold winter rides. I could use two or three more of those.
Maybe a different kind of sock for hiking or casual everyday use would be nice.
Lower entry fees would be good and just have good prizes, from sponsors and the promoter, for those who get on the age group podiums. This is my first choice.
Utah Cyclocross has a good thing going. Good participation and no goodie bag at all. No podium ceremony, ribbons or prizes either. Racers don't ever get anything they don't want in their goodie bag.
I hear they have a good raffle at the end of the season. |

I agree on the lower entry fee, but that aint gonna happen. So, give me a T-Shirt/Socks/Hat, but no "doh!-rags".
But, the T-Shirt/Socks/Hat should at least be wearable. I have dozens of race T-Shirts, but only a few I wear. Bright red? Yellow? Really? How about a long-sleeve shirt?
Socks are great, but again they need to look decent and please don't give us SockGuy socks, because they stink - at least the ones they give out at races. I loved the Sockitude socks, they actually fit and last for quite a while.
I like the Gels and Shot Bloks, but make sure they are not old/expired.
I can always use more water bottles as well. |

I rarely wear my white race t-shirts. I wear the colored ones. I have a black one on now. I like a yellow one from a couple years ago and a red one too. I guess you can't please everyone.
Therefore, just eliminate the goodies and give good raffle prizes.
I wear all the sock guy socks. Seem to be OK for me. They wear fine too. They're all I wear and I ride almost daily, summer and winter. I have enough to last a few years though.
I also eat the gels or energy blocks, but I almost never eat energy bars they put in the goodie bag. |

I'd sacrifice all schwag for chip timing. _________________ Big Pig Racing: Commit to the Ride. |

I have done hundreds of races without and have never had a problem with results. So i ask why add Over 1k of cost to a promoter when it is not needed.
And Yes i have done lots of races with them and prefer the lower cost of not having them. |

Oh, my bad, I didn't realize we were measuring our johnsons.
Let me ask you this. Why do you think the DFW area mountain bike club (and many others) can do races (of which I've done tens) that have chip timing and schwag with a race entry fees of $25, $8 less than the I-Cup? _________________ Big Pig Racing: Commit to the Ride. |

Seriously , you asked a question and i answered, sorry you got offended. BTW, they call me tuna can.
You still have not said why you want chip timing.
In my experience the ICUP's pull tag system is efficient and provides timely/accurate results. Why would chip timing be better?
Because Texan's use it??? OK. Fine. |

For the record, chip timing is not on the table.

I like chip timing because it provides accurate and easy results. I don't have to rely on someone to shout my time out to someone else who I then have to rely on to accurately record it. I also don't have to worry about the flimsy piece of paper on my shoulder coming off during the race. I find that chips are particularly useful in something like an endurance race where you have people from every class crossing the line a lot.
For instance, I hung out at St George for almost two hours this last year waiting to know what my results were, and they still hadn't been posted. If they had chips, it probably would have taken 10 minutes.
My point is, a lot of clubs and race series hold races and somehow absorb the additional cost of timing AND charge less for races. So why wouldn't I want that? _________________ Big Pig Racing: Commit to the Ride. |

Fair enough,
I don't remember the rampage results taking that long but i usually wander around stupefied for a bit post race. It is normal for results to be posted within a few minutes of finishing. |

I think chip timing is slick when it works. Just ask the roadies how well they like their chip timing deal this past season worked. What a mess.
The only MTB races I have done with it were a few Solitude weekly series races. I am guessing the chip timing people were trying to sell the organizers on it. For that series, probably not necessary. Even for ICup races, I don't see the need. For the most part the pull tags work well, plus they help you identify who is in your class, unless some dweeb is hiding it. For a big races like 24 Hours of Moab, I think they are very effective and fun to check split times and what not.
So that is how big my Johnson is. |

Normally I would never wear a doh-rag cuz I dont own a Harley but I was doing a road ride out at saltair and I threw it on to keep the damn flies out of my hair and it worked great. _________________ My cat can eat a whole watermelon. |
