| I'm planning to grab either a Garmin 305 Edge or the 605 Edge... The price for the 605 on amazon is about the same as the 305 currently, but for some reason the reviews are very bad for it compared to the 305. Which one should I grab for some good ol' mountain biking given the price is similar? |

I have a 305 with cadence and heart rate monitor. Picked it up on eBay for the same price as the 205 without all that stuff.
I have been very happy with it. The only thing that I can see that it lacks is the ability to show maps and it doesn't have the color screen that the 605 has.
You have to ask yourself what you are really going to use it for. If all you want is a great bike computer and something that can do all of the basic navigational stuff that you get with a GPS, the 305 is great. If you want the color screen and maps built in, but don't care about the heart rate and cadence, maybe the 605 is the way to go.
Personally, I went and got TOPO! for the computer and use it with the 305 and it makes killer maps pretty easily.
I don't have any experience with the 605 regarding durabilty either but the 305 seems to be pretty solid. I've used it quite heavily for about a year and a half with no problems at all. |
